FIVE

When it comes to the number 5, change is the name of the game. Sure, change brings the excitement of discovering the new and the unexplored, but it also requires risk and challenge.

"Variety is the spice of life" might be the 5's motto —but if you've got any 5s in your core numbers, you already know that things are seldom dull.

Everybody Changes

All things in life change and the life of the 5 is no exception. Those who carry the number 5 in the Life Path, Destiny, Soul, Personality, Maturity, or Birthday position will be intimate with the notion of change —in fact, it's probably been the constant in their lives. Change brings with it the opportunity for adventure, excitement, stimulation, and curious exploration —and these are all trademarks of the number 5.

Magnetic, risk-taking 5s will make sure to stir up the action if things seem to be getting a little dull, and, not surprisingly, you can count on the 5 to be the life of the party —so long as he or she sticks around.

The Number 5's Symbol

The symbol of the 5 is the pentagram, such as in the five-pointed star. The 5 also is symbolically represented by the hand, with its five fingers.

The 5 is also the symbol for humanity, as there are five human senses, and, in fact, when a human figure is stretched out, a line joining the head to the arms and legs forms a pentagram.

The symbol of the
5 is the pentagram.

The Number 5's Meaning

The 5 is the number of chance and change, and it rules the physical and any kind of movement. This number is almost always linked with sensuality and the five senses, and so is about immersing oneself in the pleasures of the physical world as a means of exploration, discovery, and free will.

The lesson that goes with this meaning is to not lose oneself overindulging in these pleasures. The 5 seeks freedom and adventure, craving to know what's out there, who's got it, and who doesn't, and so, of course, the 5 is also the number of the progressive minded.

Life with the 5

Five folks are adventurers who love to try anything new. Not surprisingly, travel is especially exciting to the 5, whether it's meeting new people, visiting different cultures, or just living in different surroundings. The 5 knows how to adapt. Fives are people of many talents —clever, resilient, and creative. In fact, it's their quick thinking and resourcefulness that's particular to the number 5.
In business, a 5 is an excellent asset because he or she is a rapid thinker, has a fertile mind and a gift with words, and possesses a keen perception of public opinion and need. The 5 can also administrate or head up a company, not because the 5 has true executive ability, but because he or she is good at getting others to act. No matter what the business, the 5 loves to gather information, juggle multiple tasks, and be in the heart of the action.

Fives are naturals in advertising, marketing, networking, sales, and promoting an individual's talent. They can sell anything to anyone because they're "good talkers." They're also good at giving speeches, like to help others, are full of ideas for improvement, and like to use their multi-talented bags of tricks to show people how to do things.

Still, too many changes, too many interests, or too much freedom can bring chaos to the life of the 5. In fact, chaos is always hovering around the 5 anyway. Whether it stems from a lack of discipline or an inability to apply his or her talents to anything substantial, it usually brings on the downside of the 5 —uncertainty, unreliable income, possible failure, and loss.

The 5 loves to travel, because movement is its operative principle. Of course, the 5 also loves physical activity of any kind (5's the aerobic number), and prefers fast-paced living so it can use its quick, creative mind. Needless to say, monotony is death to a 5 and impatience is its Achilles' heel.

The Blessing

Fives are blessed with pep, energy, speed, enthusiasm, wit, and excellent powers of observation. They have a magnetism that stems from their enthusiastic, curious response to life and the people in it. People are just drawn to the 5, and it's thought that a 5 is forever young for these qualities.

The Challenge

The challenge for the 5 is to not get lost in physical desires or scatter his or her potential and end up with nothing to show for the 5's many talents. The 5 person must learn to focus and make a meaningful existence by using freedom in a productive manner.

he Lesson

The main lesson for the 5 is the constructive use of freedom, and it needs to learn to do things in moderation. The 5 also needs to learn from others' mistakes so that the 5 doesn't have to try everything for him- or herself. Basically, this number has come to learn how to stick to it, to establish structure, and to create stability, so that the 5 can truly enjoy the freedom he or she so desperately desires.

The Lingo

Above all, 5s love freedom and are curious. Let's look at the nature of these two words more closely to see what the lingo of the 5 has to say about these people.

Curious

·Unafraid of new experiences, lands, people, languages

·Intellectually curious

·Voracious reader

·Wants to be up on trends —to be "in the know"

Freedom loving

·Abhors dullness and routine

·Desires freedom of thought and action

·Seeks freedom of worship —looking to the unconventional, unrestricted expression of spirituality
·"Don't make me commit" attitude about relationships

·Supports the law of change

·Can change partners often in looking for "greener grass"

Higher Ground

The 5, the midpoint in the numbers 1 through 9, is the symbol of the freedom to change, represents the vitality and energy of life itself, and is the point of transition in life. As the pivotal point between the 1 and the 9, the 5 allows change to take place in the original idea established by the 1, the beginning.

Spiritual Essence of the 5

The essence of the 5 is the spirit of change, and it's meant to help us all bring about change, learn to live without fear, take risks, and break up old patterns. It should come as no surprise that we all experience the 5 at some point in our lives, either through one of the 5 core numbers, or through the Personal Year Number.

Esoteric Meaning of the 5

The 5 causes each human life to mirror the laws of nature, to allow for change and adaptability in life. The energy of forward movement is what drives the number 5. Remember, too, that the 5 is the symbol of the five-pointed star, which is said to be the symbol of humankind.

A Closer Look at the 5

Fives are drawn to metaphysics, the occult, and the philosophical as methods of investigating the mystery of life. These are, after all, just one more way to satisfy the 5's curiosity. At the same time, however, the 5 can be introverted and private about these matters in spite of his or her worldly interests.

Fives are happiest when they feel they're being useful through promotion of an individual or issues of public welfare.

Fives are interested in all the latest health tips, diets, psychological programs for improving emotional well-being, as well as yoga or meditation groups. The 5 needs to be up on the latest trend, thinking, or avant-garde approach.

If 5 is your Destiny Number, you may find yourself in lines of business that involve speculation, money-making schemes, or any line of work that is designed to get quick results. Five is the gambler at heart —the one who's willing to take risks and shortcuts.

Positive Expression and Negative Expression

Adventurous, versatile, adaptable, the 5 can sometimes become restless or too hasty in his or her decisions. In addition, because it's a high-spirited number, the 5 may possess a bad temper, speak sharply or out of place, or be just plain discontented if the going gets dull.

Understanding the 5's need for adventure and change can help keep the 5's negative expression from becoming dominant. After all, remember, 5s are nothing if not versatile.

Cosmic Vibration

The cosmic energy pattern of the 5 is that it frees up, changes, adapts, quickens, energizes, expands, and creates.

Unique Abilities

The 5 has the unique ability to find things out and can uncover, investigate, and gather information exceptionally well, due to the 5's curious nature.

A 5 person is multi-talented, and this number is often called the "Jack (or Jill) of all trades." With all these talents, the 5 will experience freedom with the abundance of opportunities this number brings. Needless to say, life can be very exciting with a 5.

Relationships

Fives are affectionate and loving, loyal and sympathetic. The 5 has more extremes of temperament than any of the other numbers (yes, even more than the 3). This is due to the 5's restless nature, and the constant ups and downs of his or her life.

Fives are secretly afraid of failure but they're careful not to communicate their fear to others. Sensual, earthy people, 5s possess great elasticity of character, and, as born gamblers, they're always ready to take a chance. When being negative, 5s can be hurtful, conceited, promiscuous, lustful, irresponsible, or rebellious.

Fives like to be one of the gang —to know many people. Fond of the opposite sex, you know that if you're a 5, you can expect that the opposite sex is attracted to you.

However, making a commitment or being bonded in the bliss of holy matrimony may be a long time coming because, first and foremost, the 5 fears losing freedom. If you do manage to marry a 5, don't be surprised to find the marriage breaking up if it becomes dull or boring (just keep it hot, honey!).

Housekeeping or any domesticity is not the 5's gig, either. After all, they're not very interested in repeated routine or binding responsibility. Be sure to consider these things before signing on the dotted line with a 5 (and that includes business partnerships, too). If a 5 has 4, 2, or 8 in his or her chart, the 5's freedom-loving traits will be more grounded and stable. In fact, when a 5 has an active, entertaining, useful life, he or she will be a happy and protecting companion.

A 5 gets into hot water when his or her temper, impatience, and impulsive nature are without training or education, or are improperly channeled. The 5's haste, lack of discipline, and quickness with words can bring on quarrels, accidents, and legal troubles if the 5 hasn't developed patience, understanding, and discipline.

Another irritating little habit of the 5 is to take credit for something another has achieved, simply because the 5 once helped guide the other person. A 5 can be very unappreciative of all he or she has received and that others have done on the 5's behalf. A 5 is more dependent on others than he or she wishes to admit (you've gotta be if "Change" is going to be your middle name). Once the 5 learns to appreciate and share the responsibility, this lively, fired-up energy will delight you, but only until tomorrow, when things will change again.

The Misunderstood 5

The 5 won't be the originator, but is quick with observations. As we've said, we see ER's Doug Ross as the misunderstood 5 —no one knows his pain —as he tries to save the lives of children (that's his mission, is it not?) at the expense of hospital liability, Carol's clinic, and his friend Mark's reputation. He's misunderstood because he's only trying to help.

Recall, of course, that Doug Ross also had an earlier reputation that he's trying to live down. Those years of irresponsibility, quick, easy sex, and me-first-ism are also very 5-like, but when the 5 means well, as Doug does, he can't understand why others don't understand his good intentions.

What's Important to the 5

The 5 loves freedom, lack of restriction, and change. As long as there's variety, the 5 is happy and challenged. It's when the going gets slow that the 5 gets going.

What Offends the 5

Here are some things that offend the 5:

·To be told he or she can't change it.

·To be told he or she is inflexible.

·To be discounted for his or her resourcefulness.

·To not be recognized as a hero —after all, the 5 was trying to help change things.

·To be labeled or boxed in.

Huh, your comment brought my attention to this post all over again and it rings soooo true! I am a 5 hearts desire, with nine 5s in my points of intensification (more than I've ever seen in anyone else's chart), and five 2s in my points of intensification. Maybe the combination of my 8 life path and all those 2s makes me a better partner in business and than all those 5s would indicate. :)
